PERTH | Bright Tank Brewing Co is one of the newest breweries to open in Perth and is helping breath life into this slowly awakening part of East Perth. It’s owned by husband and wife team Matt Moore and Gemma Sampson and aims to do things a little differently than the rest.

It’s a casual space, with seating for 80 across a long communal table and a few regular tables. To the right is the kitchen and bar and to the left is the brewery, open for all to see. Street art on a few walls and the use of colour help the industrial space feel a bit warmer and overall the vibe is nice and chill.

The focus at Bright Tank isn’t just on great beer, but also great food and the proper matching of the two. Head chef Jake Gledhill (ex Clancy’s Fish Bar) has put together a menu designed around the beers with dishes like charred romanesco with lemon, parmesan, pistachio cream, popped quinoa, braised oxtail with rosemary gnocchi, charred onion cream, radicchio, fried potato skins, and purple carrot cake with cream cheese semifreddo, stewed plums, salted walnuts.

Every fortnight there’s a a seven-course “beergustation” dinner which allows visitors to really get the most of the beer and food matching that Bright Tank are going for.

On to the beer itself, and there are six core range beers on tap – a Kolsch, Pale Ale, American Brown Ale, New England IPA, Session IPA, and a Saison, as well as a few rotating seasonal and one-off beers. Tasting paddles are offered along with a number of sizes of glasses so you’re pretty well sorted no matter how much or how little you want to try. For non-beer drinkers there’s a surprisingly decent number of wines, including some great natural wines, and lots of spirits and cocktails.

It’s nice to see a brewery doing something a little different than the rest and with great beer, great food, and friendly staff, Bright Tank is a great addition to this part of town.
