MELBOURNE | Carpe Diem is an unassuming bar on Commercial Road that offers guests a simple proposition – three separate lounges, all serviced with their own bars, including an open air bar out the back. There’s nothing fancy going on here, and the owner want it to be that way – a relaxed local’s bar with good service and drinks that’s fun to hang out in. The back bar is heated and has a retractable roof, so that it can be enjoyed any time of year.
Drinks veer toward the accessible end of the scale, and the food menu is mostly bar snacks like chips, calamari and toasties – not the place for a full meal, but a bit to tie you over if you’re hungry.
Big screens show live sport and on weekends there’s a mix of live acoustic music a DJs. Bar staff are friendly, and the DJs are usually happy to take requests and play all kinds of music.
