HONG KONG | Cathay Pacific are relaunching their flagship Pier Business Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport this month and, after a year-long refurbishment, the biggest lounge in the Cathay Pacific network is set to impress with a range of cutting edge amenities and facilities. The City Lane was given a sneak peek at the new lounge and we have to say, it’s probably the best lounge we’ve seen in our frequent travels. Covering 3,300 sqm with capacity for 550 guests, the London-based Studioilse designed Pier Business Class Lounge features a varied range of zones which offer something for everyone.
There’s a “fast lane” for those who are looking for a quick stop in, which starts with the “food hall”, an eatery which offers a range of hot and cold Asian and International dishes. Next is the equally casual noodle bar, along with a coffee cart. We were told by Studioilse founder & director Ilse Crawford that this part of the lounge was inspired by Hong Kong’s street food scene and London’s Borough Market.
Duck off to the side and there’s a casual zone that looks over the airfield and lets you see all the action taking place. Seating here and throughout the lounge also contains a good number of AC and USB ports which is so important. Particularly impressive in this part of the lounge are the 23 smartly designed “Solo” seats, which are like mini-workstations with a side table, reading lamp and coat hook.
For those who have a longer layover, there’s the “slow lane” which contains a fully stocked bar along with a tea house, where a range of 10 teas, plus one rotating seasonal tea are made to order at just the right temperature by a dedicated tea specialist. This part of the lounge also offers up a variety of snacks.
Continue through the lounge and you’re greeted with 14 shower suites (complete with our favourite Aesop products) and a “relaxation room” which contains comfortable seats, stools and daybeds where you can chill out, and even have a nap. Just around the corner from this is “The Bureau”. A working space, with Apple computers and printers.
To sum it all up, the new refurbished lounge is modern with just the right level of understated style – the perfect place to relax or get some work done when flying to, from and through Hong Kong.
The Pier Business Class Lounge is located just next to Gate 65 and will be open from 5:30am until last departure to Cathay Pacific First and Business Class passengers, Marco Polo Silver and above members and Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire equivalents.
