PERTH | ChiCho Gelato Northbridge is the brainchild of partners in life and business Chez and Carly De Bartolo, who set up a portable gelato cart business after being inspired in London then travelling the world, learning how to make the perfect gelato. They gave up their day jobs as a chemist and engineer to study the art of gelato making at Gelato University in Anzola dell’Emilia in Italy, before spending time in the USA and South America for additional flavour inspiration.

Ingredients are 100% natural and locally sourced, and flavours range from the classics, like the decedant chocolate and salted caramel, to simple seasonal flavours like the lemon and basil sorbet, to the more experimental flavours like lavender and honeycomb. In fact, Chez told us that he and Carly try to come up with a new flavour every week or two because both they and customers love discovering new flavour combinations. The collaboration with cider makers Custard & Co, a custard gelato with mulled cider apple crumble, is one of the best gelato flavours we’ve tried this year, and we’ve eaten a lot of gelato around the world in 2016!

All up there are 20 different rotating flavours on at any given time, and Chez and Carly are happy for you to taste a few samples of their soft, creamy creations to help you decide which one you want to order. cho

With its combination of old fashioned service, genuine passion and creativity, it’s no surprise that ChiCho Gelato has cemented itself as one of, if not the best, places to get your gelato fix in Perth. The carts are still around, but the physical location makes getting the gelato that much easier.
