MELBOURNE | On A Boat offer a variety of options for people to enjoy a boat ride through Melbourne’s Yarra River. You can skipper yourself, or choose a skippered cruise. I was invited to experience the skipper yourself cruise.
The concept is simple, you and up to eight friends get an electric boat for your choice of one, two, or three hours. The boats are super easy to operate, and you don’t need a boat license to operate them. They’re dog friendly, and you bring your own food and drinks. There’s a Bluetooth waterproof speaker on board too, so you can connect your phone and play your own tunes.
You can cruise from around the Bolte Bridge to Punt Road, and there are several stops along the way if you want to moor. All you have to really do is keep to the left and watch out for other boaters and rowers. Cruises are run throughout the day, from 9:30am until sunset. If you want to have an sunrise or evening experience, then you have to go for the skippered option, which can be either private with friends, with others who have purchased a ticket for one of the coffee or pizza cruises.
It’s such a simple concept, and a whole lot of fun. I highly recommend it.
