MELBOURNE | East End Wine Bar is a Hawthorn East wine bar located on the site of a former auction house. The 1930s Young’s Auction House operated for 80 years, just across the road from the Rivoli, and some of its old world charm remains.

The front and back bars are low lit, and mix the brick bones of the building with timber, steel, and painted walls. The back opens up to a small courtyard for when the weather is good.

The bar is owned by Melbourne Demons star Max Gawn, Saint James’ Rich Donovan and Craig Tate, and Burnley Brewing operator Phil Gjisbergs, and the team have combined to create a relaxed space with a focus on quality drinks.

There’s a 20 or so bottle wine list, with much available by the glass across a variety of styles. There’s a small but decent selection of beer both on tap and in cans and bottles, including a few from Burnley Brewing. Choices do linger around the lager/pale ale end of the scale though.

As well as wine and spirits, your usual selection of classic cocktails is also available, and there’s a bottle shop selection too if you want to take something home with you.

For food it’s small plates, charcuterie boards and pizzas – a great option for a quick drink and feed before a movie across the road.
