AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND | ‘Wine Podrick, bring more wine!’* Yes, returning for 2016 is Game of Rhones, a celebration of all things wine.
Game of Rhones is a wine tasting festival featuring the works of over 40 makers from Australia and New Zealand (makers vary from city to city) and over 100 wines battling it out for your attention. There’s even a people’s choice award, should you wish to let democracy do its thing. There’s food too, the likes of which we hope will suit the halls of Kings Landing.
And why Rhones you say? Why from the Rhone Valley in France of course, where noble grape houses such as Shiraz, Carnigan, and Grenache can be found. We would like to think they battle it out in an age-old juicethirsty conflict, but we suspect we might be reading too much into it.
Events are held in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, and even across the narrow sea to Auckland and Wellington. Tickets are $60.00 and include all tastings and a free glass (you can call it a chalice maybe, if you want to keep with the theme) and there’s even a ‘Royal Pass’ for those who want to get in early and grab some of the more exclusive drops.
If your need for bloodthirsty semi-medieval battles is insatiable, best watch Game of Thrones. But if your thirst for wine could use quenching, Game of Rhones could be your answer. See the official website for full details.
