AUCKLAND | Food Truck Garage at City Works Depot is the flagship of what is now three Food Truck Garages across Auckland. The concept grew from chef Michael Van de Elzen’s 1970 Bedford J1 truck which was used to create healthier versions of some of New Zealand’s favourite dishes on a TV show back in 2011 and 2012.

At Food Truck Garage the concept is the same – simple, fresh food that tastes good and does you good. The signature beefroot burger is a crowd favourite, and a good example of the kind of food you can get here. It features an Angus beef patty with a beetroot boost, lettuce, tomato, pickle, “Awesome sauce” and kumara brioche. Swiss cheese is optional, but highly recommended. Other highlights include the crumbed fish wrap – apple and caper crumbed market fish, lettuce, tomato, red onion, carrot, and basil mayo, and the Jelly Tip Sundae with probiotic vanilla frozen yoghurt, raspberry chia seed jelly, and 70% cocoa dark chocolate sauce.

For those looking for a drink, a good selection of beer and wine from local, craft producers is offered, along with some tasty cocktails. We like the Green Tea Mojito with white rum, coconut sugar, mint, and Gunpowder Green tea.

The location ticks all the right boxes for those looking for a trendy, inner city place to chill, and the friendly staff help to make the experience a good one. If you’ve got a private event, with numbers between 20-250, you can even hire the original Food Truck to come to you.
