MELBOURNE | Brought to you by the geniuses behind Hoy Pinoy and The Meatball Company, modern eatery Frankie Says Abbotsford lies tucked within a jungle of modern apartment buildings. Located along the riverside in Abbotsford, the restaurants contemporary interior is bursting with natural light from large glass windows. Lights are suspended from the high ceiling, which is propped up by large timber pillars, giving the place a welcoming, spacious feel. What’s more, Frankie Says houses a picturesque leafy outdoor area, making it the perfect spot for al fresco dining on warm summer days. The City Lane was invited to visit for brunch and were keen to see what was on offer.
We started our dining experience with delicious cappuccinos, served in gorgeous crockery. Through the waitress’s recommendation, we also ordered two fresh market juices, Orange and Apple & Strawberry. Served in cute glass bottles the juices were sweet and refreshing.
Frankie Says offers a diverse selection of breakfast and lunch options, with dishes to satisfy both sweet and savory cravings. The menu caters to some classic Melbourne breakfast favourites, including sourdough with lemon dill smashed avocado & poached eggs and buttermilk pancakes. Moreover, the menu adopts an Italian twist, with antipasto sharing plates and mouth-watering flavours of house made gourmet pizza.
After much deliberation, the first dish we chose was the crispy chicken burger, with shaved parmesan, bacon, iceberg and avocado caesar dressing. The glazed milk bun perfectly balanced the diverse fillings, creating a unique yet delicious fusion of flavours. Accompanied by a generous portion of seasoned fries, this dish definitely hits the spot!
The second dish we opted for was the pork belly with fennel, radicchio, radish, walnuts, orange and citrus oil. The pork was perfectly cooked – succulent, tender and extremely flavorsome. This was served alongside a visually beautiful and intricate salad, which combined an array of vibrant colours and fresh produce. Right down to the delicate edible flowers, this dish is perfection on a plate.
After catching sight of the beautiful cakes and pastries on display in the entrance, I had to give one a try! I went for the Lime & Green Tea infused donut. The texture is light and airy and the delicious blend of unique flavours compliment each other beautifully. Satisfying but not to sweet, this was the ideal dessert to culminate our tasty lunch.
I would definitely recommend Frankie Says for a relaxed alfresco weekend brunch or midday treat. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, the food delicious, and breakfast is served all day – what more could you ask for!
