CHICAGO | Gino’s East is one of Chicago’s popular deep dish pizza chains and has been going strong since opening their first restaurant in River North in 1966. The building is heritage listed, dating back to 1887 when it was The LaSalle Street Cable Car Powerhouse, which powered Chicago’s once extensive cable car network.

A range of deep dish and thin crust pizzas are available here, along with several appetisers, sandwiches and salads, but the real reason you come to Gino’s East is for the deep dish. Our favourite is the Gino’s Supreme – with pepperoni or Italian sausage, onions, green peppers, mushrooms. The cheesy, saucy, meaty delight is certainly not an every day food, but it’s a delicious treat.

The River North location moved to its current location in 2014, with one of the main reasons being that space was needed to the Gino’s East brewery, which brews beer for all the Gino’s East locations. All of the beers brewed on site are available at Gino’s East, including a few which are only available at this location. There are plenty of different beers on offer, and tasting paddles are available. We like the Pineapple Impostor, a 6.2% ABV American Pale Ale loaded with Mosaic hops, and the Witte Chicks Dig Me, a floral 4.8% ABV Belgian Witbier.

There’s also a comedy club “The Comedy Bar” located on the 3rd floor of the restaurant, where live comedy is hosted Wed – Sat. Reservations for the Comedy Bar are recommended.
