MELBOURNE | Glovers Station is an intriguingly attractive café whose red-bricked Tudor-style exterior stands out in the leafy suburb of Elsternwick. Previously a service station, the venue underwent an entire refurbishment to become the contemporary food, drink and leisure haven that it is today. Fronted by an open courtyard, the interior is laiden with cushioned sofas against the walls to exude a homely feel, whilst a central coffee station and white-tiled open kitchen window nudges you back to the reality of being in a vibrant café.

Unlimited when it comes to cuisine, the primary focus of the menu is on the most seasonal and locally available ingredients, showcased in naturally innovative dishes. Items such as Bircher Muesli, House Baked Beans and Benedict each deliver a classic breakfast or brunch with a slight twist, whilst a deceivingly simple Breakfast Salad surprises with hummus and grilled saganaki hiding underneath the forage of raw greens and walnut praline.

Lunch options include a Vegetable Tart, Reuben Sandwich and Poached Ocean Trout, though for a bit more freedom and excitement, the ‘Pick Me’ section offers you a list of seasonal proteins to choose from, to be paired with your choice of a seasonal side. To brave the Melbourne winter, hearty options of ox cheek, silverside and pork belly are sure to warm your insides, the latter of which, we chose and paired with roast pumpkin topped with feta, pine nuts and caramelized onion. A wholesome dish displaying skillful technique and flavour balances, that doesn’t leave you feeling heavy despite its nourishing components.

If you have room for sweets, the white chocolate Pannacotta consists of an airy, mousse-like texture whose surprise centre oozes a sweetly tart raspberry sauce once cut into, flowing like a river over the granola and fruits meticulously scattered over the plate. A range of delectable French pastries and small treats are on display in the front cabinet, with the Peanut Butter & Caramel slice being our pick of the bunch!

The drinks menu features the usual suspects expected at a daytime café, along with coffee supplied by Dukes House Blend, a small selection of alcoholic beverages and a non-alcoholic warm apple cider made in-house by one of the friendly staff.

Humble yet impressive in every way, Glovers Station retains the ability to captivate both locals and non-locals through its simplistic concept of serving tasty, seasonal food and drink in a welcoming atmosphere. The perfect location whether catching up with friends or whiling away the hours at your own leisure.
