Goldieboy, Melbourne (Online)

MELBOURNE | Simon O’Keefe has been cooking and refining his signature burger for over 10 years. First for mates, and then as popups across Melbourne as Goldie Boy.

With popups on hiatus during lockdown, Simon wanted to deliver his burgers across Melbourne, but wasn’t willing to sacrifice any quality, so decided to launch DIY burger kits. He #gifted me one the other day to try, and I was impressed.

It’s a simple burger. Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls potato buns (the same ones Shake Shack uses), filled with two custom recipe Peter Bouchier beef chuck and brisket patties, two slices of high melt American cheese, onions, pickles, and a house made adobo Kewpie special sauce. The flavour hits the spot and the structure of the burgers is bang on.

During lockdown, burger kits orders open on Sunday, for Friday delivery. You can also grab the kits, along with burgers hot off the grill from Two Wrongs in Prahran on Saturday afternoons.

If all goes to plan, the kits should be available to pick up at more places around town in the coming weeks. Post lockdown, Simon hopes to open a permanent Goldieboy burger joint. Watch this space.
