CHICAGO | Half Acre Beer Company is a popular brewery with two locations in Chicago. Production of the core range occurs at the Balmoral location, which opened in 2015, with the original on Lincoln, which opened in 2008, being where Half Acre’s experimental and mixed fermentation brewing happens. It’s a small, simple space with a bit of seating, along with stools at the bar and a bit of standing area near the bar.

The beers here cover a wide range of styles, from popular core range beers through to seasonals and more experimental brews. The Daisy Cutter Pale is their most famous beer, and a good example of the style that we can happily drink all the time. Others we like are the Lead Feather Black Ale (available September-March), and one of our favourite beers ever, the Benthic, a Barrel Aged Imperial Stout with coffee and coconut that’s released in November each year. Keep an eye out on Half Acre’s social media channels for details of this year’s Benthic release as it sells out fast – probably because it’s rich and smooth, and tastes like Christmas in a cup.

Food is a simple affair, focusing on quality options that feature the kind of food you want to eat when enjoying a few beers in brewery taproom. There are seven different types of creative burritos (try the ‘BBQ Brisket’ with smoked beef brisket, buttermilk biscuit, arugula, cheddar and jack cheeses, fried onions), along with a few plates like steak, nachos, and tempura, along with a dessert of the week.
