NEW YORK CITY | Hometown Bar-B-Que is considered by many to be the best BBQ joint in New York, and as soon as you try their food, it’s easy to see why. Hometown Bar-B-Que opened in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in September 2013, when NYC native Bill Durney decided he wanted to bring authentic southern style oak smoked BBQ as good as any in Texas, to New York. He travelled around the US, learning the art of BBQ from some of the best pit-masters in the country, and the dedication shows.

The space is large, with an Americana themed front bar complete with live music stage opening up into a large open barn space where out back. There’s a lot to recommend here. Most of all we love the brisket which has a beautifully caramelised crust, tender meat, and melt in your mouth fat (order the fatty over the lean). The pork ribs are fantastic too, succulent and full of flavour. As well as the authentic classics, Hometown also incorporates flavours from the local communities into some of its dishes. Think spicy Vietnamese hot wings with cilantro ranch, and Jamaican jerk baby back ribs – both outstanding.

Drinks wise it’s craft beers, a wide range of American whiskeys, seasonal cocktails and Red Hook wines.

There’s no bookings here, just get in line, order your food, nab a seat and enjoy. Some items do run out as the day progresses, but there will always be more than enough no matter when you visit to satisfy your hunger.
