CANBERRA | Hopscotchis a bar in Braddon with a large, vibrant interior and a more relaxed, spacious courtyard out the front. It’s an interesting venue that appears at first glance to be more of a rowdy establishment than it actually is. The music is loud, and people in the mood to dance do so until close, but there’s a lot more to Hopscotch than meets the eye.
Street art from local artists graces part of Hopscotch, as do vintage advertising posters which nod to the space’s various past uses. The name comes from beer and whisky – hops and scotch, and the list of both drinks is impressive. The beer list features a diverse range of craft beers from across Australia while the whisky list features around 50 familiar and rare drops from around the world, with something to suit all budgets.
Food here is no slouch either. The menu is inspired by barbecue traditions from around the world and features meat cooked over charcoal on a parrilla grill that was specially imported from Argentina. Think things like buffalo wings, loaded fries, burgers, beef brisket, buttermilk fried chicken, and pub favourites like parmas and steak.
Whether you’re in the mood for a relaxing afternoon meal and drink, or a night of quality drinks and dancing to pop tunes from across the decades, Hopscotch is a great place to consider.
