GEELONG | The Hot Chicken Project Geelong offers up Nashville style fried chicken, and will be instantly familiar to anyone who has visited Melbourne’s Belle’s Hot Chicken. This isn’t surprising as one the owners of The Hot Chicken Project is chef Aaron Turner, who helped set up Belle’s Hot Chicken. The long narrow space has a long bar as its main feature, along with a few tables and stools which you can perch yourself upon to the side.
Food wise it’s a choice between a few key options. Choose the type of chicken you want (wings, tenders or dark meat), heat level (mild “Southern” all the way through to the super hot “evil”) and sides. All chicken orders come with a serving of white bread and pickles. There’s also a chicken burger and a tofu burger on the menu, along with a “hand pie”, which is kind of like a turnover.
Drinks are more than an afterthought here, with an impressive range of wines showcasing the region along with local craft beers and ciders, and a few international tipples. All in all, The Hot Chicken Project provides people with yet another reason to visit Geelong’s burgeoning arts district.
