MELBOURNE | Kenny Lover is one of Melbourne’s more unique ice-cream shops, offering an assortment of interesting ice-cream flavours. The 1970s themed Thornbury venue is from chef Michael Baker and sommelier Daniel Mason from Henry Sugar; Tommy Peasnell from Dexter, and actress, writer and producer Maria Angelico.
The Michelin star pedigree is what drives many of the flavours, and allows them to work despite them sounding like they might not. For example, soy sauce ice-cream, and a kalamata olive with white chocolate flavour. For those who aren’t convinced, there’s also classic flavours, and combos driven by nostalgia.
Ice-cream is the focus here, but there’s also hot chip on the menu (why not? say the owners), and small batch sodas. You can order scoops to enjoy in or take away, as well as tubs for home.
