SYDNEY | LABLD is a cafe that’s housed in an old corner store, and stakes its claim as one of Marrickville’s top cafes by offering a focused menu of tasty, innovative, dishes. It’s owned by Benjamin Terkalas (ex Beejay’s) and Kabir Sayed (ex Dove & Olive), with a menu inspired by Sayed’s travels.

There’s a lot that’s enticing on the menu, such as the Bird’s Nest – poached egg wrapped in potato spaghetti, avo puree, fried leek, snow pea tendrils, and sil-gochu, and the Blumenkohl, a bowl of roast cauliflower, chickpeas, brussel sprouts, fried onion, and tahini. The breakfast momos, filled with wine infused bacon, egg, tomato, shallots, are also fantastic, and those with a sweet tooth should try the pandan pancake with caramelised banana, honeycomb cream, meringue, and cherry.

Most of the dishes on the menu are vegetarian, with meat-based and other add ons for those who want it. Produce is ethically sourced from the likes of Feather and Bone, Brickfields, Pepe Saya, and Macamilk. For drinks its coffee from Mecca and other guest roasters, along with juices, teas, and shakes.

Service is friendly and efficient, and the space has a real community vibe about it. A great option for breakfast and lunch when in Marrickville.

Paul has a strong inquisitive nature that drives him to look beneath the surface in order to discover what really makes a city and its people tick, and what better way to do this than over a good meal or drink, with a city’s locals, at places that people who live in that city actually frequent. Paul is also a co-host of The Brunswick Beer Collective, a podcast that may or may not actually be about beer.
