LAKES ENTRANCE | One of the main reasons to visit Lakes Entrance is for the excellent fishing. I highly recommend going crabbing off the shore, or heading out into the lakes and ocean on a chartered boat. If fishing isn’t for you, however, or if like us, you aren’t quite skilled enough to catch all of the things that you’d like to, there’s an easier way to enjoy the area’s bounty.
On Bullock Island you’ll find the Lakes Entrance Fishermen’s Co-op, and their retail shop “Off The Wharf”. The co-operative began in 1968, and sees local fishermen operate together to supply local restaurants, as well as restaurants across Victoria and New South Wales, with some of the freshest, tastiest seafood around.
At Off The Wharf, you can select from the day’s catch. Common things on offer include figer flathead, gummy, school whiting, duck fish, ling, bream, yellow eye mullet, and prawns.
The shop also sells an assortment of food products from local producers, which work well with seafood. And if you’re looking for fishing gear, the co-op also has a gear shop.
