MELBOURNE | Leonard’s House Of Love is a South Yarra bar inspired by log cabin design circa the 1970s. Walk inside and you’re immediately transported into a different era, with wood panelling and floors, wallpaper, a fireplace, pinball, upcycled furniture and lots of shades of orange, yellow and brown helping nail the 70s look. Combined with a great rock and funk soundtrack, and live DJs spinning vinyl on the weekend, you can’t go wrong.

There’s a mixed crowd, and the place feels more Fitzroy than South Yarra, but don’t worry – everyone’s welcome, there’s zero pretention here, and the staff are very friendly. The food and drink offering at Leonard’s is fantastic, and both are reasons to visit. For beer lovers its accessible brews like Young Henry’s Newtowner and Brooklyn Brewery Lager on tap, along an assortment accessible commercial and craft in bottles and cans. There’s around 15 quality wines covering a range of varietals, a quality spirit selection and some great cocktails. Try the “Leather & Lace”, a tasty combination of Eristoff vodka, limoncello, passionfruit, pineapple ,lime, and sugar.

For food it’s burgers, nachos and fried chicken with a handful of other things. Leonard’s do some of the best American comfort food in Melbourne and it’s well worth coming here with an empty stomach. The cheeseburger, with a beef brisket & short rib patty, American, cheese, burger sauce, pickles & lettuce, is fantastic, and the hot glazed fried chicken tenders with pickles & chipotle mayo is one of our favourite fried chicken orders in Melbourne.

Leonard’s have a late night license which allows them to stay open until 3am on the weekends, which is fantastic as Leonard’s is the kind of place that you don’t want to leave.
