MELBOURNE | Mama Rumaan is shaking up Docklands with its modern and bold take on Middle Eastern cuisine. The Central Pier venue boasts scenic waterfront views, spacious seating and a stylish interior, perfect for entertaining and events. There is plenty of comfortable seating outside, so you can enjoy the waterfront view whilst grazing on the delicious menu.

The food is centred around Mama Sabah’s family style cooking and celebrates the Middle Eastern culture of sharing and feasting with loved ones. Rumaan is the Arabic name for pomegranate and the ingredient is featured throughout the menu. The plates pay homage to recipes passed down from generations and bring a warm, home cooked feel to a fierce and hip space.

The menu is designed to be shared, with a tantalising selection of hot and cold mezzes, meat from the grill, mama’s street food and mouth-watering pilafs. We started the evening with a selection of mezze dips -hummus, baba ganoush, labneh, fried pita with za’atar and flatbread. From the hot mezze we sampled the Lamb cigars made from filo pastry, stuffed with seasonal lamb and mince. The selection of meats off the grill include shawarma, served with Mama’s Arabic spices and tahini as well as a variety of chicken, lamb or vegetable skewers hot off the grill. Vegetarians, vegans and gluten free are all well catered for in the menu too.

To top the evening, we indulged in pomegranate mouhalabiya, a beautifully crafted dessert made from orange blossom custard with pomegranate and fairy floss. If you still have room, you can opt for the dessert tasting platter or, for something light, the fresh fruit platter.

For drinks it’s a selection of local wines, beer and classic cocktails. A perfect way to spend a Melbourne evening, celebrating food and great company.
