MEDELLIN | Medellin Beer Factory (“MBF”) is a large bar in El Poblado that specialises in, as the name suggests, beer, but also a wide range of spirits and cocktails. With a frontage that opens up to the heart of El Poblado’s night life, the bar is a popular spot for those looking for a place with a lively atmosphere. There’s an old school rock and pop theme here, with framed Rolling Stone magazines all over the walls along with guitars, neon signs, sports paraphernalia and the like. The music is rock and loud, and there’s an upstairs area with more seating, pool tables, and darts.
The beer list numbers around 65, and features beers from Colombia and abroad. For those looking for something on the craftier end of the scale, MDF is a great place to try beer from local brewery 3 Cordilleras, which was Medellin’s first craft brewery when it opened in 2008. There are other Colombian beers on offer here, and a decent number of German beers from breweries like Erdinger and Paulaner, but do be aware that the list generally plays it safe.
For those not into beer there’s sangria, spirits, and a cocktails list full of classics like mojitos, margaritas, and bloody Marys. Food wise its pub classics like burgers, wings, and nachos.
While Medellin Beer Factory wouldn’t make the cut on craft beer lists in cities we’ve been to with an established craft beer scene, in Medellin its one of the better options for those looking for something that’s not a commercial lager. The beers on offer might not be adventurous but there’s enough that tastes good, and the atmosphere is very fun. It’s a great venue if you’ve got a group, or are with a few non-beer drinkers as there’s something for everyone.
