MELBOURNE | Melbourne Festival is back for 2016 and promises to offer festival goers an array of activities to show off all that makes Melbourne’s arts scene great. The festival has the lofty goal of “using the transformational nature of the arts, culture and creativity to bring about positive change for individuals, communities, and the spaces in which they live”. What this means for you is that over 17 days you’ll get the chance to experience a range of unique international and Australian events in the fields of dance, theatre, music, visual arts, and multimedia. A number of free and ticketed events will be on all across Melbourne meaning there’s something for everyone and every budget.

There’s a lot on, but to help you get started a few of the events that we are particularly interested in are Chiharu Shiota’s “The Home Within“, which explores the complex relationships between body and mind, the kinetic interactive installations of “Calling Percy“, and MSO’s audio-visiual show “Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage“.

Also returning is “Festival Feasts”, a collaboration with sixteen venues to help keep festival goers satisfied on the food and drink front. As well as their usual offerings, each venue has a special offer available for Melbourne Festival Ticket holders, which you find here. We went to the Festival Feats preview and were impressed with the food on offer and venues selected, with a few of our favourites CBD spots included. Venues involved in Festival Feasts this year are:

  • Arbory
  • The Barre
  • The Carlton
  • Chocolate Buddha
  • Fatto
  • Harley House Bar & Grill
  • Loop Roof
  • Maha
  • Mesa Verde
  • Om Nom
  • Papa Goose
  • Pastuso
  • Red Spice Road
  • San Telmo
  • State of Grace
  • The Toff In Town

Head over to the official Melbourne Festival website to take a look at the full programme and to plan your festival. Oh and remember to keep an eye out for the always popular Art Trams, which will be rolling around Melbourne.
