LIMA | While most of Lima’s craft beer action is in Miraflores, Mi Tercer Lugar (“The Third Place”) is a craft beer bar located in the heart of Lima’s historic downtown. It’s has a bohemian vibe – sort of hippy cafe meets hipster craft beer thing going on, and indeed operates as a cafe as well as bar during the day, with coffee and pastries available.
For beer fans though, the excitement comes from the 41 taps on offer, featuring a regularly rotating selection of Peruvian craft beers. The craft beer scene in Peru has expanded massively in recent years but, even amongst locals, the offerings aren’t that widely known by those outside of craft beer circles. Mi Tercer Lugar aims to change this, with a wide variety of styles of local beers on offer across both the taps and the extensive bottle selection.
The offering here is amongst the best in town, and even with the language barrier (the day that we visited none of the staff spoke English), staff make a great effort to ensure that you get the right beer for you. For those who want to try a few things, there’s the option of pre-selected tasting paddles, which focus on a particular style of beer or brewery, or you can make up your own tasting paddle. Of course you can grab pints and half pints too, and there’s always the bottle list if you want to explore even further.
If you’re hungry, there’s the aforementioned cafe-style options available along with a larger menu of pub food, many of which contain a Peruvian twist. Think chicken wings, rice and steak, fried potatoes and sausages and the like.
