LOS ANGELES | Modern Times Brewery opened in San Diego in 2013 and within a year had built a reputation as one of the best new breweries of that year. Fast forward to 2020, and they’ve got seven breweries across California, including Los Angeles’ Modern Times Dankness Dojo.

The Dankness Dojo opened in 2018 and offers Angelenos the chance to try Modern Times’ beers as fresh as they come. That’s right, not only is the Dankness Dojo a brewpub, it’s also a brewery in its own right.

The space is nice and airy, with large ceilings and wall-to-wall art installations. Pay attention to the quite interesting comic panels that line the restrooms.

There’s over 30 taps of beer, from the brewery’s core range through to limited releases, guest beers, and taproom only beers. There’s also an assortment of cans and bottles to enjoy on site and take away. If you’re not a beer fan, there’s a decent wine selection. And if you don’t want alcohol, the full Modern Times Coffee experience is on offer here, from lattes and cold brew through to barrel aged coffee and more. There’s also kombucha, soda, juices and the like.

For food, it’s exclusively plant-based, vegan food. Don’t let your preconceptions turn you away though – the food here is seriously good. Think Burmese lentil salad, bulgogi ssam, and Beyond burgers.
