MELBOURNE | North & Eight is a bustling cafe in Essendon (well Aberfeldie technically), serving up a wide selection of all day breakfast options, healthy salads and hearty burgers. North & Eight really creates an experience for diners, with impeccable service and a light filled open plan interior. The décor is modern, well thought out and all inclusive, with every table designed to accommodate a pram.
North & Eight has become a destination cafe with its innovative and creative menu. We were invited to visit by the owner Walid Hijazi, who was inspired to bring the diversity and service-oriented culture of inner city cafes into the suburbs. The menu caters for all tastes, with the staples such as smashed avocado on toast and eggs Benedict. We were astounded by the Korean Fried Chicken on a waffle, which was presented beautifully. Made with Hong Kong Egg Waffles, the chicken is complemented by Korean BBQ sauce, kimchi, gochujang mayo and slaw. The Wild Rice Salad is a popular option for healthier tastebuds. It is a bowl of all the good things such as quinoa, kale, roasted vegetables, spiced tahini yogurt and activated almonds. You also have a choice of adding your own protein. The menu also caters for the little ones, with a Little Tuckers food menu.
The drink options are plentiful, and the great coffee is from Proud Mary. If you want something a little extra, we recommend ordering the Northella Houseshake which comes with a Nutella filled donut on top. It’s like a meal itself. Healthier options include freshly squeezed juices, a wide selection of teas and for the sweet tooth, shakes and bubble iced tea.
North & Eight is a great place to chill on a weekend and enjoy good food in a spacious setting. The menu offers a wide range of options, including innovative and trendy eats which are Instagram worthy. The place has a friendly community vibe and we are looking forward to heading back soon.
