MELBOURNE | Oakridge Wines is a revered winery, restaurant and cellar door located in the heart of the Yarra Valley, producing some of the highest quality wines in the region. Their dedicated winemakers have access to a wide variety of grapes, both on-site in their 15-acre vineyard and offsite at a number of their exclusive access vineyards.
Widely considered a popular table wine due to their elegance and subtlety, their most highly regarded and awarded wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. We were invited to experience a wine tasting at the Oakridge Wines cellar door, whose views look out to the beautifully serene vineyards and the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley, followed by a sampling of their new weekday lunch special.
From now until the end of August, the Oakridge restaurant is offering a $45.00 Mid-Week Lunch Special, where customers are entitled to a 2-course meal (plus a glass of wine) prepared using local and seasonal ingredients, most of which are gathered from the Oakridge kitchen garden on-site. With Head Chef Matt Stone at the helm of the kitchen, the expectations of the food following the ‘slow food’ philosophy and being sustainable are met with the simple yet quality dishes arriving at our table.
The Mid-Week Lunch Special menu will vary from week to week, depending on the produce available in their kitchen garden, and what is locally and seasonally available. The variety of dishes offered as part of the lunch special is quite limited, with only one entrée and a choice between two main dishes, but this may suffice for those seeking a simple lunch experience paired with picturesque views. As part of the special, customers may choose a glass of Oakridge Local Vineyard Series (LVS) from a small selection on the wine list.
This lunch offer is a good way for people to enjoy the Oakridge Wines experience, without breaking the budget. The professional yet friendly level of service in the restaurant compliments the simplicity of the natural landscape, whilst the minimal-fuss yet quality-ingredient meal will satisfy without leaving you feeling heavy. We would recommend stopping in to the cellar door to taste some of Oakridge’s exceptional wines, and to learn a thing or two about the wine making process from their very knowledgeable staff.
