SYDNEY | Husband and wife duo Meg Barbic and Clay Grant have been Botany locals for a while, and decided do something about the lack of local craft beer options in the area and start their own brewery. One Drop Brewing Co opened in 2019, inspired by the same foundational ideals of Reggae Music with its signature One Drop beat. Ideals of community, humanity, one love, free thinking and unique creative self expression.

The brewery is an open, causal former warehouse space. There’s big windows, lots of natural lighting, plants scattered throughout, and a rear courtyard with a backyard garden kind of vibe. You can tell that it’s got a real local community vibe about it, and there’s people from all walks of life enjoying themselves, young and old, singles and families.

As for the beers, head brewer Nick Calder-Scholes has been kicking goals, with several of the brewery’s beers winning national awards. There’s approachable lagers, experimental beers, fantastic sours and more. The brewery has even done a cornflakes beer in collaboration with Kellogg’s, whose factory is also in Botany.

You can enjoy beers from the taps from sizes as small as taster through to growlers to go, and there’s also a great can selection. Try the Botany Bay Lager, a 4.3% ABV no nonsense lager that’ll convince any craft beer drinker that a well made lager is as good as any hazy IPA. But if you do want something hazy, the 6.5% ABV Mango Nitro Milkshake IPA is fantastic. Also try one of their sours. The 5.7% ABV Strawberry Honeydew Sour, kettle soured and rested on freshly sliced cucumbers, is brilliant.

For those who don’t like beer, One Drop offers a basic wine list of white, red, rose & sparkling wine. And if you’re hungry, there’s a rotating selection of food trucks like Happy as Larry, Burger Head, Wholly Schnit and Agape Organic.
