MELBOURNE | The Palace Hotel South Melbourne is an old fashioned pub that doesn’t cause any fuss rather it just goes about its business getting all of the important things right. One of the most important things about a pub is the quality of beer on offer and at The Palace Hotel you can find 12 unique beers across its 11 taps and handpump. The focus is on small breweries from around Australia, and there’s always something interesting to be found on the tap list.
The front room is small and simple with high tables and stools near the bar, while the side room features a pool table for a game if you’re keen. The back room is quite spacious and light filled, and spills out into the rear courtyard (which is dog friendly by the way) when the weather is nice. Upstairs is home to a dining space, meaning there’s a different zone here for whatever kind of session you’re after.
Food is pub food with an American twist. Burgers, fried chicken, buffalo wings and a few other bits and pieces like curries to keep things interesting.
If you’re a footy fan, it’s a great spot to watch AFL too, and always attracts a good crowd and friendly banter on game day.
