LONDON | Paul A Young is one of Britain’s, indeed world’s, best chocolatiers, and is known for producing high quality, innovative chocolates and chocolate treats. He has a few stores in London, but the Islington store in Camden Passage is the original, and our favourite. The store is small and cozy, with fresh truffles in the centre, and chocolate bars and other creations like brownies and spreads along the walls.
Paul is a down to earth, friendly guy. When we first met him while at the store one day, we had a long chat and his passion for chocolate shone through. He knows his stuff more than anyone we’ve met, and travels the world to source the best cacao beans from which to make his chocolate. All products are made completely by hand in the kitchens at each shop, in small batches and at every stage using fresh ingredients.
There’s a lot to like at the shop, and we suggest you just grab a selection of what takes your fancy, and what your budget will afford. The delicious salted caramels are award winning, and Marmite XO bar is one of a kind. The gooey, rich brownies are one of our favourite things ever, and we never leave without purchasing at least one. The raspberry and peanut butter truffles are also a delight. If you’re unsure about any of the flavours, the staff will happily discuss anything on offer in as much or as little detail as you need.
Oh and if you don’t already have it, do be sure to pick up a copy of Paul’s recipe book “Adventures with Chocolate”. It contains the only chocolate brownie recipe you’ll ever need, along with a host of other great recipes.
