SAN FRANCISCO | Pi Bar is a bar that might have a novel name and opening time (yep it opens at 3:14), but there’s nothing tacky about this craft beer and pizza spot in Mission. Jen Garris opened the bar in 2009 and it’s still popular today, attracting a constant stream of locals keen for some great beer and New York style pizza.
The rotating tap list features 12 beers, with a focus on Northern Californian craft. Think breweries like Sierra Nevada, Russian River and Lost Coast. If the tap list doesn’t tickle your fancy, there’s also a beer fridge featuring a solid selection of bottles, local and from further afar. Those looking for spirits and cocktails will need to look elsewhere, but there are a few wines on offer for those who don’t want beer.
The New York style pizzas features the appropriate thin crust, and are topped with locally sourced ingredients. They’re available by the slice or by the pie, and are very tasty. Try the “Death By Mushroom”, which uses a mushroom sauce made with Moonlight Death & Taxes Beer. If you don’t want pizza, there’s a few salads and pasta dishes too, along with a meatball sandwich and the famous house made rainbow cookies.
We recommend visiting between 3:14pm and 6:28pm when the the “Pi R Square Special” is available – a single slice of cheese pizza and a pint of the beer of the day for $6.28.
