SAN DIEGO | Pizza Port Ocean Beach started as a pizza shop in Solana Beach in 1987, before installing a seven barrel brewing system and becoming one of the craft brewers that put San Diego on the craft beer map. Today, they have five locations in Southern California, including the conveniently located Ocean Beach spot in the heart of San Diego.
It’s a fun and casual spot, with a laid back, California surf shack theme that’s popular with beach goers and families. There are surf boards and surfing memorabilia dotted around the venue, TVs showing surfing and even a small game arcade out the back.
The Ocean Beach location has a a 10 barrel brewing system installed, and across the taps you’ll find Pizza Port beers covering a range of varied styles, including the Jetty, their popular West Coast IPA, and the refreshing Newbeak Pale Ale. There’s always a few rotating seasonal and special brews on tap too, along with beers from other craft breweries. The root beer floats are really tasty too, and for something different try a stout or porter float.
The pizzas are very tasty and have a medium thickness base topped with a range of ingredients – you can pick from the menu or make you own. Don’t come here expecting authentic Neapolitan pizzas though, that’s not what Pizza Port is about. We like the ‘Pizza Bressi Ranch’ which is topped with buffalo ranch sauce, pulled pork, pepperoncini, red onion and cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and fresh cilantro. There are also a few sides like Mac and Cheese Bites, and salads if you want something lighter.
