MELBOURNE | Plus Coffee & Kitchen is a cafe in Carlton from the team behind CBD speciality coffee spot, Plus Coffee Co. I recently popped in for What’s on Melbourne to grab some photos and find out more.
Since opening in August, Rocky, Jen and the team have created a space that’s resonated with locals. While I was doing the photoshoot, there was a constant stream of regulars popping in, grabbing their regular coffee orders, having chats with the staff and other customers. It’s a nice vibe.
The menu at Plus Coffee & Kitchen showcases what makes Melbourne’s brunch scene renowned. An assortment of sweet and savoury globally inspired dishes, with twists on brunch classics, and excellent coffee.
Light, fluffy hotcakes come topped with strawberry cream cheese, matcha ganache, almonds, and macerated strawberries. A highlight of the sweet options is the tiramisu brioche French toast, served with cacao nibs, whole hazelnuts, espresso and mascarpone cream, Golden Gaytime ice-cream, and Jack Daniels syrup. Both are well balanced, and not overly sweet.
If something savoury is what you’re looking for, the Turkish eggs on flabread with two fried eggs, natural yoghurt, mixed herbs, dukka, and your choice of spiced lamb mince or La Boqueria chorizo is a great option. So too, the black garlic tonkotsu ramen with charsu, black fungus, spring onions, and nori.
For drinks, it’s a full selection of espresso and filter based coffee, made using your choice of a house blend or rotating single origin beans from V5 Coffee. If you like your coffee, you can purchase bags of whole beans for home. There’s also alternate lattes, house made smoothies and juices, tea, and a small alcohol selection. The iced yuzu tonic and espresso is a great summer option.
