MELBOURNE | Australia’s most successful homegrown musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, has returned to Melbourne for its 10th anniversary tour to give theatre goers a chance to see what the award winning musical is all about. The City Lane was invited to see the show during it’s opening week, and long answer short, we highly recommend it.

The musical is based on the 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and follows the adventures of two drag queens and a transgender woman as they journey across the Australian Outback from Sydney to Alice Springs in a tour bus that they have named “Priscilla” to put on the show of a lifetime. Their epic journey is a heart-warming story of self-discovery, sassiness and acceptance.  The show features a dazzling array of more than 500 award-winning costumes, 200 headdresses and a nonstop parade of disco and dance-floor classics. Needless to say, it’s a lot of fun.

Tony Award and Olivier Award nominated actor Tony Sheldon returns to reprise his role of Bernadette. After creating the role of Bernadette in the original stage production, Sheldon reprised the role in the West End production before treading the boards at the legendary Palace Theatre on Broadway, frocking up more than 1750 times across the globe. Joining Sheldon is accomplished leading man David Harris as Tick and Kinky Boots and Les Miserables alumni Euan Doidge as Felicia.

Once the Melbourne run is up, the musical will continue its tour in Sydney (opens May 2018), Brisbane (opens August 2018) and Adelaide (opens September 2018).
