MELBOURNE | Rebel Blue has landed in the heart of Chapel street. Co-founders George Loupos, Vinny Diaco and Rody Kaka are serving up fresh Greek cuisine with a rebellious modern take on classic dishes, and we were recently invited to check it out.

Our journey starts with the space, a bright neon ‘Rebel Blue’ sign welcomes us into a sophisticated dining hall and cocktail bar. The place was bustling on a wintry Melbourne weeknight. The space caters for larger groups as well as an intimate dining experience. There is also the option to dine at the bar, with easy access to extensive cocktail and wine list.

We were greeted with a warm welcome and complimentary olives. Like a traditional Greek feast, the plates are designed to be shared. The menu offers a choice of smaller bites, larger plates, classic char-grilled meats and if you are still hungry, ample sides. We sampled the eggplant croquettes, served with melting 3 cheese – mozzarella, kefalotyri and cheddar. The char-grilled skewers are a must and perfect for sharing. The lamb cutlets off the grill were fresh, zingy and cooked to perfection.

The sides complemented the meat dishes perfectly, we tried the green beans with rebel sauce and feta. The deserts are a highlight and a must to polish off the feast. We indulged in Kormos Aka which was a decadent chocolate log, with hot chocolate sauce.

The cocktails on offer were exotic and exciting. We sampled the Mimi the Fuzz made with fresh watermelon, gin and aperol and the and the Vinny HAHA featuring tequila, tsipouro and pineapple. There is also a fantastic selection of local and international wines.

The chill vibes, raw and edgy décor, delicious shared plates and extensive cocktail list gives us a new and exciting place to spend the evening in the company of our loved ones.
