MELBOURNE | Roast Duck Inn Box Hill has been around for years and it’s still as popular as ever, with a line sometimes out the door during peak times. It’s a great example of a place that focuses on one thing and perfects it. In this case it’s all in the name – roast duck. The roast duck here is prepared Cantonese-style, with succulent, flavoursome meat, melt in your mouth fat, a wonderfully crispy skin. Many consider the roast duck at Roast Duck Inn to be the best in Melbourne, and its easy to see why with each bite.

As well as roast duck you can also get roast pork, which is also fantastic. As you eat or wait for your takeout order you’ll see fresh glistening ducks and huge slabs of roast duck coming out of the kitchen, you’ll also get complimentary duck bone soup to start if you’re eating in. It’s a busy restaurant with a lively atmosphere. There nothing fancy here – it’s all about the food. The menu features other roast meats like soy sauce chicken, along with a variety of Cantonese dishes but really you’re coming here for that duck and pork.

Whether you opt for a whole duck, or do what many people do and go for the duck served atop rice (soaked in wonderful roast duck juice) with a side of stir fried bok choy, you can’t go wrong. Trends come and go, but some things should never change, and this is one of them. There’s a reason that the classic survive.

Don’t worry about that line either – the service at Roast Duck Inn is brisk and you’re never waiting too long for a table.
