MELBOURNE | Runner Up is a new Collingwood rooftop bar in the Collingwood Yards arts precinct and community space. It’s from the people behind Colour Club, Mildlife, and Confetti Studio.
Housed on what was the former TAFE caretaker’s residence, Runner Up features an indoor and outdoor space, with view that are slowly being built out by nearby developments, but still nice nonetheless. It’s super casual, and attracts a youthful, creative crowd.
For drinks, there’s a one pager of Australian and Italian white, red, orange, rose and sparkling wines, a few local beers on tap and in cans, and a small cocktail list with an Italian influence. Spritzes, aperetivos, and the like. You can also order classic cocktails if you like. It’s all designed to be delicious and almost all keenly priced.
If you’re hungry, it’s snacks like tinned fish, dolmades and Chappy’s Chips. There’s plans to do food pop-ups in the courtyard down the line, once the bar has settled in.
