MELBOURNE | During the summer, university campuses tend to become quite zones, but this summer, Shimmerlands will be keeping the vibrancy of The University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus going. Brought to Melbourne by the team behind Shadow Electric, Shimmerlands is a film, music and food festival featuring high-quality programming throughout the daylight and night hours.

Visit and you’ll find featuring an outdoor cinema, outdoor music amphitheatre, multiple bars and an outdoor dining featuring some of Melbourne’s favourite eateries like Pidapipo, All Day Donuts, and Fancy Hanks. There are a mixture of free and ticketed events, and something for everyone across the programme. The Shimmerlands music program featuring local and international artists spanning a range of genres, while the outdoor cinema features a range of hand picked contemporary films like La La Land, Ghostbusters (2016), Dr Strange and Sing Street.

The festival has been set up at University Plaza and MacFarland Court, between Union House and the Melbourne School of Design, and features a large (mostly covered) pavilion and outdoor deck. The music amphitheater, in face, is big enough to hold 2,400 people! It’s all part of the University of Melbourne’s mission to “contribute distinctively to the cultural life of Melbourne”, and to encourage people onto the campus who might not normally have a reason to visit.

It doesn’t take much to get us heading outdoors during this time of year and with Shimmerlands, we’ve got yet another reason to get out there and experience the cultural side of Melbourne.
