AIZUWAKAMATSU | Soba Koujuan is one of the restaurants in Aizuwakamatsu that specialises in Soba. The noodles are hand made daily on site, and use flour from nearby Minamiaizu, which is known for its high quality buckwheat. Combined with the famed water of the region, the noodles are very flavoursome, with just the right amount of spring to them. Ordered as a set, with some local soup and lightly battered tempura, you can’t go wrong.
If you’re not in the mood for soba, Soba Koujuan also offers a selection of other Japanese dishes, including a very tasty Tonkatsu. Soba Koujuan is conveniently only a seven minute walk from Tsuruga Castle, making a great option for lunch before or after a bit of sightseeing.
