MELBOURNE | Speakeasy is a Chapel Street bar inspired by the speakeasy culture of illegal drinking dens set-up during America’s prohibition era of the 1920s and early 1930s. We’re not quite sure that the big flashy ‘Speakeasy’ sign at the front of the venue fits in with this idea, but regardless, the deceptively large venue offers much to warrant a visit.

Inside is a dining room and bar, and out the back is a spacious decked courtyard, all designed by local designers Eon Architects and perfect for summer sessions and long weekends in the sun.

Drinks wise there’s a solid selection of beers, cocktails and wines, with the happy hour offer of half price cocktails being particularly enticing. The espresso martini made with freshly brewed Duke’s coffee is always a good diea. For hungry punters, the food offering is bistro classics like steak, burgers, pies, and salads.
