MELBOURNE | Hidden amongst the hustle and bustle of the Melbourne CBD lies an old Victorian themed dessert parlour with a snug rooftop terrace called Sweetie and Moustache Dessert Lounge on Russell Street.
The vintage interior on the first level is the dessert lounge, offering a cosy European vibe with a black and white checkerboard floor and plump leather booths against a stunning array of floor to ceiling archway windows. If you’re not a sweet tooth you can make your way upstairs to the rooftop bar where you’ll be welcomed by an intimate garden terrace decked out with fairy lights overlooking the city. Side note, this spot would make for a sweet date night.
The atmosphere is surprising quiet and serene considering it is located in the CBD, further creating a romantic ambience with the dimly lit setting and vertical garden. Cue the important stuff, cocktails! Mr Moustache offers a unique collection of whimsical inspired cocktails. From the classic espresso martini topped off with a decadent Ferroro Rocher, to a fresh and fruity vibrant blue lychee cocktail garnished with fluffy fairy floss. If you fancy sharing drinks with friends they have fun cocktail jugs available. Presentation does not go astray as the nostalgic ‘Gumball’ cocktail is served on a gumball dispenser with dry ice erupting on the surface – Nerds candy is sprinkled across the bottom, leaving a sweet crunch against the candy infused vodka.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea soaking up some of your alcohol with some food; so Mr Moustache offers comfort food but a little more on the fancy side. Toasties and sliders are on the menu as well as thick cut crispy potato chips served in a little silver bucket, garnished with truffles and a side of truffle infused mayo giving it a tangy smoky flavour. The Asian inspired crispy chicken bao is presented in a squishy bun, with contrasting crispy chicken and sweet sauce which is light but super tasty and satisfying.
If you’re craving a sugary dessert one night or looking for a fun spot to have colourful cocktails in a chilled out location, or both, then Mr Moustache is worth a visit as it is sure to sugar coat your night out.
