MELBOURNE | The Anchor On Anchor Place otherwise known as Montereys for a short period of time, is a nautical themed bar on Chapel Street inspired co-owners Kelly Dunn and Mark Catsburg (Leonard’s House of Love) drive down the Californian coast, and the northern Californian beach side town of Monterey. At the front of the blue walled venue is the bar, while the back room has more seats for dining. Fishing nets, anchors, and other nautical paraphernalia dot the venue, but nothing feels too overdone.
The focus of the food, unsurprisingly, is on seafood, and head chef Daniel Salcedo has put together a menu containing things like whole fish, chowder, ceviche, and everyone’s favourite – the lobster roll. Drinks wise cocktails are the highlight here – well balanced and not too sweet. Try the Smugglers Run with raspberry, basil, lemon, vodka, spiced rum, and cracked pepper. Beer is a mixture of local and international brews with a focus on quality over quantity, as is the wine list.
