AUSTIN | The Ginger Man (Austin) is one of a few Ginger Man pubs around Texas and has been serving up beer to the people of Austin since 1994 (the original location is a block away). The focus has always been on good beer in a traditional pub space, complete with beer garden out the back and a dartboard.
That The Ginger Man is one of Austin’s best craft beer bars is a testament to its ability to change with the times. It’s retained what makes the space special while upgrading what needs to be done to stay at the top of its game. It might look like an old pub, and retain the charm and coziness of an old pub, but the beer list at The Ginger Man is thoroughly modern, and features over 50 beers on tap from both the USA and around the world. In fact this is one of the best places in town to try non-Austin beers on draught.
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and will happily let you try a few beers and help guide you through the tap list to find the right beer for you. If there’s nothing on the taps that appeals, there’s sure to be something on the extensive bottle list (with a surprisingly strong Belgian and German showing) that will satisfy.
If it’s food you’re after, there’s a small menu featuring snacks, sandwiches and flat breads. While it’s all perfectly acceptable food, the reason you come here is for the beer.
Make sure to keep an eye on The Ginger Man’s social media accounts for news of upcoming pint nights, tap takeovers and flight specials, which happen quite regularly.
