METUNG | East Gippsland chef Stuart Derham has always been about promoting the region’s excellent produce, and when he opened his pizza joint The Local Metung, he continued this philosophy.
It’s all about simple, thin crust wood fired pizzas that showcase the best that the region has to offer. There’s the regular menu, and rotating seasonal flavours.
When I visited, I avoided going for my usual tomato based pizza flavours and instead decided to try something a bit different to take away back to my motel. I went for the Snowy River Black Garlic with prosciutto, and the Flooding Creek Fungi with Gippsland Jersey buttermilk white base, anchovy & kale. Both really tasty.
Word on the street is that the roasted kipflers with Gippsland jersey butter & fresh herbs potatoes are amazing too. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
