MELBOURNE | The Moor’s Head occupies the space formerly home to the back room of Markov, and is the second location of the ‘inauthentic’ Lebanese pizza restaurant. The space is spacious and airy with high ceilings, exposed bricks, and lots of Lebanese movie posters along with a large mural.
Owner Joseph Abboud uses the term inauthentic because his pizzas blend influences from Italian and Middle Eastern pizzas. Italian dough is shaped like a Lebanese pizza and topped with all sorts of delicious things. Try the Oum Kalthoum, with tomato, ashawan (aged mozzarella), haloumi, and black chilli, or the Beiruti, with za’atar, fresh roquette, mint, tomato, olives, soused onion, labne, and sumac. There’s a small selection of non-pizza hot and cold meze too if you want something else.
If you feel like dessert, try the Yaoub, a halva and banana pizza, or the Turkamisu – a Turkish take on Tiramisu with cardamom coffee, green walnut liqueur, and crushed pistachios.
For drinks it’s five craft beers on tap, wines and arak. And you can always pop into Eva out the front if you want a larger selection of drinks after dinner.
