MELBOURNE | The Que Club is a Brunswick East restaurant, retail space, and cooking school dedicated to all things barbecue. It was opened in 2017 by couples Andrew and Pam, and Dean and Dana, of competitive barbecue team “Natural Born Grillers”.
Originally located in the space now home to Free To Feed, The Que Club can now be found in the space formerly occupied by Hellenic Republic. In a relatively crowded Melbourne BBQ scene, venues need to do something different to stand out. The Que Club does this in many ways.
While American low and slow is a key part of the offering, that’s not all that the venue is about. On the menu, you’ll find meat, seafood, and vegetable dishes that take inspiration from barbecue cultures across the world. Non-meat options are more than a mere afterthought too. On my recent visit, highlights included the grilled market fish with salsa verde and lemon potatoes, and the charred green beans with smokey coconut sambal.
Another way that the Que Club stands out is its retail offering. The bar’s craft beer and cocktail offering is impressive, and most of what’s on offer on the constantly rotating local craft beer list can be purchased to go. You can also purchase meat to cook at home, sourced from quality suppliers such as Sher Wagyu.
For non-food items, there’s also an extensive selection on offer. This includes barbecues, grills, and smokers, charcoal, and all of the accessories you could need.
If you want to delve even further into the world of barbecue, the on site cooking school has you cover. A variety of classes are run on a regular basis, ranging from entry level “Barbecue 101” type courses though to ones that deal with more specific and advanced topics.
