LONDON | The World’s End is a Grade II listed public house in Chelsea dating back to 1897, and it was most recently renovated in 2015 as The World’s End Market. We were invited to try out the special meat focused menu, the result of a partnership with world-class Spanish meat connoisseur, José Gordón. The new menu has seen the World’s End’s already impressive meat menu expanded to include cuts of Spanish meat, including what some have described as the “best steak in the world”. A bold claim indeed – consider our curiosity piqued.

When we arrived we were immediately charmed by the “local pub with a twist” vibe. The interior has the perfect atmosphere for us: a cosy, down-to-earth 1930s-era setting; the right level of conversational background noise, accommodated by high ceilings, loads of natural sunlight, and artworks from street artist Ninth Seal hanging throughout the venue. All of this is complimented by prompt, attentive service.

It’s all about healthy, fresh and flavoursome food with minimal seasoning and interference to let the quality of the produce shine. Ingredients are locally sourced and the menu changes with the seasons. The staff took time to explain the delicacies of the menu to us, which we could also have a peek at from the beautifully laid counter next to the kitchen. For starters, the steak tartare and carpaccio from the Entrecote are both highly recommended. The tartare is made from premium ox, lean and red, presented simply with freshly baked bread. The carpaccio, matured for 180 days, is served on a wooden board with olive oil and salt. This, for us, was the highlight of the meal, with every thin slide vapouring in the mouth like an earthly dream. And that is as far as we can vividly describe it, you will have to try it for yourself.

For mains we had El capricho burger, and Picanha De Buey. The beef patty is made using 100 days matured premium ox. It conveys a strong, deeper taste than your normal burger, definitely a must for meat lovers. Picanha de buey, made of 100 days matured top sirloin steak, is served rare, simply seasoned with sprinkles of sea salt. As we savoured each cut in our mouth, it felt ceremoniously worthy to do a Salt Bae routine and sprinkle salt all over the meat and our forearms.

To cleanse your palate, there are a number of dessert options, including Hazelnut and Caramel cheesecake and Vanilla panna cotta. We stepped out feeling suitably satisfied, and will definitely come back for more of that mouth-watering carpaccio.
