Viet Hoa, Woodville Gardens

ADELAIDE | Viet Hoa was started by Sam Nguyen in the Adelaide suburb of Woodville Gardens several years ago, after he decided that an career in accountancy wasn’t for him. When Joel Baylon from Shobosho recommended I check the place out, I knew that I had to get on it.

Viet Hoa is Sam’s homage to his two favourite Vietnamese dishes – pho and com tam. The menu is limited, with Sam choosing to perfect a few variations of these two things. And his dedication to the craft pays off.

I went for a bowl of the pho dac biet. A fresh, light and vibrant bowl of noodles filled with beef fillet, flank, tripe, tendon, meat balls. No need for superlatives here, it’s just an excellent bowl of pho that hits all of the right notes. Along with a glass of iced Vietnamese coffee, I was all set for the afternoon ahead.
