SYDNEY | Rockpool Bar & Grill is a Sydney institution. Yes it’s been around since 2009 but when it comes to what matters, it’s still at the top of its game. The art deco interior which dates back to 1936 and was updated by Bates Smart still impresses when you walk inside and suits the upmarket steakhouse concept perfectly.
When it comes to food, it’s all about the best quality produce done simply and well. The grill is the highlight here, and just as has always been the case, the range and quality of steaks is why many come here. Blackmore Wagyu and Rangers Valley Angus and Wagyu are just a few of the items you’ll find on the steak list. There’s a lot more than steaks though – seafood impresses, as does the rotisserie chicken and array of sides. If an expensive meal isn’t what you’re after, then you can do what we do and come here for the fantastic Rockpool Burger.
Before burgers were all the trend in Australia, and before Neil Perry opened Burger Project, he created what many lauded as the best burger in Australia. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype surrounding the good quality, fast food American style burgers that are popular (and admittedly excellent) now but when it comes to a high end burger, the David Blackmore’s Full Blood Wagyu Burger with Bacon,
Gruyere Cheese and Zuni Pickle stands head and shoulders above the rest. It’s not cheap at $26.00, but it’s well worth every dollar.
Cocktails here are great too, and there’s something to accompany everything on the food menu.
The Sydney restaurant scene continues to evolve in new and exciting ways, but consider us happy that Rockpool Bar & Grill is pretty much the same as it’s always been. Great food, great service, and a great space.
