[/content_slider]SYDNEY | Cafe Con Leche Surry Hills is a small family owned and operated Colombian cafe that serves authentic Columbian coffee and snacks in a homely, welcoming space. You’re just as likely to hear Spanish being spoken as you are English while you sip on your single origin Cafe Con Leche (coffee with milk). In fact when we paid a visit we were greeted by the owner in Spanish before a quick look of confusion made him state with a laugh “I have no idea why I assumed you spoke Spanish!”
The small menu contains a selection of Colombian favourites, with the highlight being the arepas. When we were in New York several years ago we became hooked on arepas and have struggled to find authentic ones in Australia so were very happy to see both corn and flour versions on the menu at Cafe Con Leche. The arepas are served with pots of hogao (tomato salsa), sour cream, aji (chilli sauce), ropa vieja (pulled beef) and guacamole and the superstar filling of moist, tender shredded pork. If it’s something sweet you’re after, there are a few Colombian desserts on offer, served with the requisite white cheese. Even the chocolate santafereño (hot chocolate) is served with a cube of white cheese.
There are even some shelves off to the side that contain a small range of Colombian products for you to purchase and take away should you wish to try making some Colombian food at home.
